Here’s a fun LEGO contraption that kids will love! We built this locking LEGO safe as part of our spy theme. It’s perfect for storing spy gear!

We’re also going to talk about LEGO puzzle boxes in this post. They’re a lot of fun! One thing that I love about puzzle boxes is that they inspire kids to tinker and invent their own designs.

But first, we’ll show you our safe! This push-button LEGO safe is definitely not easy to open if you don’t know what you’re doing. Only the ones who know the secret will be able to open it.

We also have some LEGO safes to build with a lock and key, but this safe doesn’t require a key. It does require pushing two buttons at the same time, and one of the buttons is camouflaged.

When the safe is closed, it’s hard to tell how to open it! You can probably see where the button is at the top right corner of the photo.

There is also a sliding button on the back of the safe. If you slide it back and forth, nothing happens…

So what’s the trick? How do you get into this safe? Hold down the button on the top of the safe. Then push the button on the back, and the drawer will open.

You can store some great spy gear inside this box! We fit in a pair of sunglasses, a mini notebook, and one of our invisible ink pens.

We decided to do a video for the instructions on this project. It’s much easier to see what’s happening in the mechanism with a video!

LEGO Puzzle Boxes

Do your kids like to build LEGO puzzle boxes? LEGO puzzle boxes are boxes where the key is hidden as part of the box. You have to figure out how to solve the puzzle to get the box open, and some of them require several steps!

Our friend Jack made this video with a puzzle box that is perfect for beginners. He shows how the box works, and then shows instructions for building it. Check it out below!

Here’s another LEGO puzzle box with 10 steps!

I really enjoyed watching this one because it’s so amazing how many puzzle elements are in such a small box.

So cool! I want to build this for my nephew, and I mean the Lego safe with push down button! But I don’t own any Lego, so have to buy it by brick? Have you any recommendations? And do you have maybe an idea of which bricks I needed and how many?
