Make beautiful Perler bead flowers with our easy patterns! This is such a fun kids craft.

We love Perler beads because there are so many different things you can make like necklaces, superhero characters, Christmas ornaments, and more. I’ve also found that creating Perler bead designs is a very calming activity, and fantastic for fine motor skills. My boys loved them as much as my daughter does!

Today we have several flower designs to share with you! Janie (age 12) and Jonathan (age 14) helped me create these.

But before we get to the designs, here are some of our top Perler bead tips and supplies!

Supplies Needed for Perler Bead Flowers:

  • Perler Bead Jar – 22,000 beads in multiple colors! (The jar with 11,000 is only a couple dollars cheaper… might as well go for this one.)
  • If you don’t want so many beads, here’s a Perler Bead Tray with 4,000 beads in different colors.
  • Square Pegboards
  • Circle and hexagon pegboards – this set also has a fun heart and star
  • The special ironing paper comes with the pegboards
  • Iron

It’s very easy to iron your Perler bead creations to fuse the beads together, but if you’ve never done it before, you’ll want to practice on a small design or two before ironing one that your child cares deeply about. I’ve found that it takes a little bit of experience to get a larger design evenly melted.

Be sure to cover the design with a piece of the special ironing paper that comes with the Perler bead pegboards!

You can decide if you want to melt the beads just a little, so that the beads are just fused with the holes still intact, or if you want to melt it more and end up with a smooth design.

I’ve found that a design can go from “just perfect” to “too melted and ruined” very quickly, so be aware of that! Thankfully, it’s not difficult to get the technique down.

Flower Bouquet

This is such a fun project! Give a little vase of flowers as a gift, or just display it at home. Either way, this is a fantastic way to make something that is actually useful.

(That’s the thing about Perler beads… sometimes they are just plastic creations laying around the house!)

We painted popsicle sticks for stems and used a little hot glue to attach them to the back of each flower.

Here are the patterns for the flowers:

If you want to make flowers with petals like this, it works really well to use a hexagonal or round pegboard. You can start with 7 beads in the center and then build out from there. Experiment with different petal shapes and colors!

Happy Flower

This fun happy face flower was inspired by a pattern we saw on DIY Candy. I modified the face and leaves just a bit, and I think it’s SO cute!

Here’s the pattern.

These would make great gifts! Put it in a little flower pot or vase.

Flower Coasters

Here’s a project that’s super fun and also useful. Use round pegboards to make coasters.

It’s so easy to make a flower design.

You can decide if you want the center to be larger or smaller. Then add petals in whatever colors you like.

Here are the patterns:

If you don’t have translucent beads to outline the flower, you can use white or any other color.
