Make an adorable tissue paper heart candle jar! This is a sweet Valentine’s Day Craft that kids of any age can make.

Cut out the hearts ahead of time, and even preschoolers can make this one. Older kids and teens will enjoy making this craft on their own. My 11 year old daughter and I had so much fun with this!

Another way to use these jars is to fill them with candy or other treats! Such a fun gift idea.

You won’t be able to wash the jar without the Mod Podge also coming off, so don’t put unwrapped candy or treats in your jars.

Wrapped candy should be fine! I just made sure that we didn’t get Mod Podge on the inside of the jars.

Supplies Needed for Heart Candle Jars:

  • A jar – we found plain jars with no texture to the glass at Walmart, but you can find these at most craft stores
  • Tissue paper in red, white, pink, etc.
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Votive candle

Here’s a link to a 4-pack of jars on Amazon, but they were definitely cheaper at Walmart.

Step 1: Cut out tissue paper hearts.

The easiest way to do this, I think, is to fold a sheet of tissue paper in half and then cut out a heart that way. Keep going until you have a nice assortment of hearts in different colors. You might want to make them different sizes too!

Step 2: Mod Podge the hearts to your jar! So simple. One really important tip, however, is to brush Mod Podge onto the jar BEFORE you add a heart. Then paint more Mod Podge on top of the heart.

If you try to just paint over the heart to attach it to the jar, it will scoot out of place and possibly even rip because of the weakness of the tissue paper. Adding Mod Podge to the jar first solves that problem!

Keep adding hearts until you’re happy with how your jar looks.

Once the Mod Podge has dried completely, you can put a candle inside your jar! A votive candle is the perfect size. Tea lights are kind of hard to get down in there, but they’ll work in a pinch.

Or, fill your jar with candy or another treat!
