This Craft Stick Gingerbread Man ornament is such a fun Christmas craft for kids! They don’t take long to make, and they look so cute on the tree.

In addition to hanging these ornaments on the tree, kids could also give these as gifts or use them as gift tags.

Raid your craft closet for supplies, and then do some Christmas crafting!

Supplies Needed for Craft Stick Gingerbread Man Ornaments:

  • Jumbo craft sticks (the wide ones, not popsicle sticks)
  • Wood craft circles – 1.5 inch diameter
  • White buttons – 3 per ornament
  • Brown acrylic paint
  • White paint pen – we used a Sharpie oil-based paint marker
  • Googly eyes
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1: Prepare your craft sticks.

You’ll need 3 craft sticks per ornament. Cut the end off of one to make the body. Then cut arm segments that are about 1.75 inches long. Cut leg segments that are about 2 inches long. It helps to cut the legs at an angle – makes it easier to glue them onto the body.

We used scissors to cut the craft sticks. This is a job for teens or adults.

The wood circles came from Hobby Lobby, and they are 1.5″ diameter. I think Michael’s carries these also. If you can’t find any, you could also substitute with cardboard.

Step 2: Glue the arms, legs, and head to the body. We used a low-temp hot glue gun (my kids can handle this okay) but Tacky Glue is another great option if you don’t want to use a glue gun.

Step 3: Paint the gingerbread man brown. We used acrylic paint for this.

Step 4: Glue on the googly eyes and the buttons. Then use a paint marker to draw a mouth and icing designs.

Sharpie oil-based paint pens are my favorite for this kind of thing!

Step 5: Finally, glue some ribbon to the back of the head, and your ornament is complete!

We made a few of these and we just love them! You can see in the photo below that the body on the ornament with green ribbon is a little longer than the others. I think that the short body looks better.

The finished craft stick gingerbread man ornaments just make me smile!
