Kids will love following the patterns on these LEGO Animal Building Cards. There are 8 different animals to build, and the ideas will also inspire kids to create their own designs!
Kids can either build the animals from the photos in this post, or you can print a set of building cards at the bottom of the page. I think the building cards would make a very nice classroom center!
I would recommend the animal building cards for ages 5 to 9 or so. But really it depends on the kid!
I’ve been wanting to do some LEGO® mosaic art for awhile, and since I currently have a broken arm, this was the perfect one-armed project for me! It was so nice to get back to doing something creative again.
Be sure to check out our other LEGO® building cards – we’ve got LEGO® Superhero Building Cards and LEGO® Fall Building Cards.
Designing LEGO® mosaic art is a little harder than it looks. They seem like such simple projects, but it can be tricky to get the animal to look like what you have in mind! I found it helpful to use Perler bead patterns or pixel art patterns for inspiration. I modified Perler bead ideas from Pinterest to make the panda, the parrot, the dog, and the cat.
Make Your Own Animal Mosaic Building Book
I printed the animal cards, punched a hole in each corner, and put them on a ring. Well, technically my husband did this since I’m down to one arm. Thanks, hubby! It makes a great building book for kids. They can flip through the cards and choose which one they want to build!
LEGO® Animal Mosaic Patterns
Here are the animals we made. Each of the animals were built on a 16 x 16 plate, but kids can use a larger baseplate if desired. Encourage kids to modify the designs if they don’t have the exact bricks or colors shown!
LION
PARROT
FOX (This is maybe my favorite one. But it’s hard to decide!)
PANDA
GREAT HORNED OWL (my 10 year old designed this one!)
PUPPY
KITTEN
Antennas make adorable whiskers on the kitten! This kitten would also look cute in tan with brown, or make it a calico cat with brown, orange, and white.
TROPICAL FISH
This one is not filled in solid with bricks the way the others are, but that allows you to add wedge plates as fins.
